Agricultural Truck Insurance

Agricultural trucks are used by farmers, supply haulers, farm and ranch stores and large shipping companies to transport goods over longer distances. An agricultural truck may be large enough to haul farming equipment such as tractors and combines, or it may be smaller in size and used primarily for hauling bales of hay, bags of grain or water barrels.

Physical Damage

Your company’s agricultural trucks are a big investment no matter how you use them. The last thing you need is to have the added financial burden of paying for repairs or paying to replace the truck entirely if it is destroyed. Protect your agricultural trucks with the right types of commercial auto insurance so that you can rest easier knowing that your investment is as secure as it can be. Here are the primary types of insurance you need for the truck:

  • Liability Insurance – Liability insurance is required by law in most parts of the United States. This insurance coverage protects other drivers when you have an auto accident that you are at fault for. If your agricultural truck driver causes an auto accident with another vehicle or person, your liability insurance will pay for that person’s bills that arise due to the accident. This insurance pays for damages to people and to property.
  • Bodily Injury – When another person is injured in an auto accident that you are at fault for, the bodily injury portion of your liability coverage pays their bills. This insurance pays for medical treatment bills such as hospital stays, emergency room treatment, ambulance transport, recovery and rehabilitation, prescription medications and the like. It also pays for pain and suffering, lost wages and funeral expenses when applicable.
  • Property Damage – Property damage protection is the second part of a general liability policy. This insurance portion pays to repair or replace other people’s property that was damaged in an auto accident that you are at fault for. If your agricultural truck runs into another vehicle and causes a dent in the side for example, your property damage coverage will pay for that vehicle’s repairs.

Medical Payments – Medical payments insurance pays the medical bills and expenses for your truck driver and any passengers he had in the truck with him at the time of the accident. This insurance option is useful because it pays benefits no matter who was at fault for the accident. This coverage option is not available in all areas. Contact one of our licensed representatives and we’ll help determine if it is available for your company.

Physical Damage Insurance – Physical damages insurance is meant to protect your agricultural truck to the fullest extent possible. If your truck is damaged in a storm, by vandals, or due to running into an inanimate object, this insurance can pay for the damages. The types of damage covered depends upon the type of physical damages protection your company selects.

  • Comprehensive Physical Damage Protection – Comprehensive physical damage protection pays for the cost of repairs to your agricultural truck when it sustains damage from something that is not a collision or roll over event. If for example, your truck is damaged from tree limbs being blown about in a wind storm, this insurance can pay for the damages. Comprehensive protection takes care of replacement when your vehicle is stolen, and repairs if it is vandalized or damaged in a number of other ways as well.
  • Collision Damage Protection – This damage protection is specifically designed for taking care of your truck when it collides with another object, or when it sustains damage because of a roll over accident. If your agricultural truck backs into a loading dock while delivering hay for example, collision damage protection can pay for the cost of repairs.
  • Specified Peril (CAC) – Fire and Theft with Combined Additional Coverage (CAC) is also known as Specified Peril Insurance. This coverage protects you from non-collision perils and is limited to protecting you from only those perils that are listed as covered on your insurance policy.

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist This insurance protects you from having to pay the repair bills if your truck is damaged in an accident and another person is at fault. If that other person does not have auto insurance, an uninsured motorist policy can take care of the repair costs for your truck. If the responsible party has insurance but it is not enough to cover the full cost of the repairs you need on your truck, the underinsured part of this policy can make up the difference.

  • Bodily Injury – As covered with Liability Insurance.
  • Property Damage – As covered with Liability Insurance.
  • Collision Deductible Waiver (CDW) – When you carry an uninsured or underinsured motorist bodily injury policy on your agricultural truck, you can qualify for a collision deductible waiver (CDW). This waiver makes it so that you do not have to pay your standard insurance deductible when you make an uninsured/underinsured policy claim.

Other Important Commercial Auto Insurance For Your Agricultural Truck Includes:

  • Rental – Rental insurance pays for the cost of a temporary replacement vehicle when your truck is down for repairs due to an accident.
  • Towing – Towing coverage pays the costs you incur from having to have your agricultural truck towed away from the scene of an accident.
  • Trailer – Trailer insurance protects the trailer itself by paying for damages to the trailer in an accident.
  • Trailer Interchange – A trailer interchange program puts your truck in the position of hauling a trailer that does not belong to your company. The exchanged trailer must be covered by separate insurance so that it is protected in the event of an accident.
  • Cargo – Cargo insurance pays for the damage to or loss of cargo.
  • Accessories (Ex: mileage meters, navigation units, radios) – Accessories insurance protects you from the loss of expensive extra equipment you have installed on your trucks. Your agricultural truck may use GPS navigational units for example, or automated weigh station devices. Protect these from loss by adding accessories coverage to your commercial auto insurance policy.
